Biography

Trumpet and Organ made accessible, truly the King of Instruments meets the Instruments of Kings. A duo committed to the enjoyment of music, both as performers and for the hundreds who have heard them perform. Taking a “friendly” approach to both stagecraft and musicianship, both work as a team, intent on maximising the communication between stage and auditorium.

Performances at home and abroad have included venues as far a field as Norway, Denmark, Germany, United Arab Emirates and across the pond to the USA. Home performances have involved such prestigious venues as the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, St. Giles Cripplegate, the cathedrals of York, Peterborough, Guildford, Lincoln, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Winchester and venues closer to home such as the famous Kelvingrove Art Gallery, and churches throughout the area including Alloa West and the Kirk of the Holy Rood in Grangemouth.

Taking their open style of performance to various venues continues to delight audiences, with the opportunity to see the performers in a more intimate light. Performances such as this have included works for trumpet and piano/continuo in church halls and historic monuments.

Grant, a Masters graduate in performance of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, has performed as a soloist throughout the world. As a student at the RSAMD, he was featured with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Scottish Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Dunedin Consort and is currently in high demand as a teacher and performer throughout the country. He is also the recipient of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Award.

Matt is an honours graduate of the Open University, and continues his studies alongside his daily work. In 1998 he gained his place in the history books, becoming the youngest cathedral director of music in the UK at the age of just 21. He has performed as an accompanist and soloist for the BBC, including both television and radio broadcasts. He has also performed for the Archbishop of Canterbury and currently holds the position of Director of Music at the world famous Thomas Coats Memorial Church in Paisley.

Grant and Matt advocate an infectious enjoyment in a variety of music from the baroque to the present day, offering the audience the opportunity to become part of the music through their insightful and entertaining performance.
